ORGANISATION

Introduction

Maharashtra State Seeds Corporation Ltd. (MSSC Ltd.) was established on April 28, 1976, under the National Seed Project and operates as a unique "Farmers Seed Company." The share holding structure includes the Government of Maharashtra (49%), National Seeds Corporation Ltd. (35%), seed growers (13%), and agricultural universities (3%).

The authorized share capital of MSSCL as on is Rs.10 Crores divided into equally shares of Rs.100 each. As against that, the paid up share capital of MSSCL is Rs.4.18 Crores. The shares have been held by following categories of share holders:

 

Government of Maharashtra = 49.00 % shares
National Seeds Corporation = 35.44 % shares
Farmers/Seed Growers = 12.70 % shares
State Agril. Universities = 02.86 % shares

An ex-officio Chairman, a senior IAS officer, leads the Corporation, while day-to-day operations are managed by an independent IAS Managing Director. The Board comprises 11 nominated members and two members elected from seed growers. MSSC Ltd.'s headquarters is in Akola, Maharashtra, supported by six regional offices and 26 district offices. The Corporation operates 21 state-of-the-art seed processing plants, emphasizing research and development and total quality management.

MSSC Ltd. produces seeds for cereals, pulses, oilseeds, and fodder, managing a production program over 1,66,010 acres with 32,215 seed growers. The Production Department ensures quality seed production through rigorous management and incentive schemes. The Processing Department utilizes modern machinery to meet seed quality standards.

The Marketing Department oversees a network of around 1,000 dealers, focusing on farmer-friendly pricing and after sales support. The Corporation also engages in state and Central Government seed distribution schemes, expanding its reach to several other states.

With a turnover exceeding Rs. 538 crores, MSSC Ltd. employs 318 staff members, who alongwith share holders, seed growers, dealers contribute to MSSCL’S reputation for quality, recognized by 16 National Productivity Awards. Its brand "Mahabeej" signifies reliable seeds and a commitment to innovation in the seed industry.
