Introduction
Maharashtra State Seeds Corporation Ltd. (MSSC Ltd.) was established on April 28, 1976, under the National Seed Project and operates as a unique "Farmers Seed Company." The share holding structure includes the Government of Maharashtra (49%), National Seeds Corporation Ltd. (35%), seed growers (13%), and agricultural universities (3%)[cite: 3].

An ex-officio Chairman, a senior IAS officer, leads the Corporation, while day-to-day operations are managed by an independent IAS Managing Director.
